KOTA KINABALU, March 24 -- Sabah UMNO is donating RM1 million worth of essential supplies to assist Sabahans who have been hit hard as result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Former Sabah UMNO liaison chief Tan Sri Musa Aman in a statement today said food staples, household items and protective medical items such as face masks and sanitizers will be distributed to the needy group regardless of race, religion and political affiliation.

“I have discussed the matter with Sabah UMNO liaison chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin who will oversee the distribution of the supplies via the state UMNO secretariat.

“Sabah UMNO’s machinery is in place to facilitate the distribution of such assistance to those badly affected by COVID-19,” he said.

He said RM1 million may seem small to some but he hoped that the assistance would lessen the burden of those desperately in need of essential items such as rice, cooking oil and gas.

Musa added that Sabah UMNO would also be discussing with other political parties such as Parti Bersatu Sabah, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah, Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sabah on pooling their respective resources to help mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the people of Sabah.

During these challenging times, every little bit helps and everybody should put aside politics and come together to lend a helping hand to those who are desperately in need, he said.

Musa said these are unprecedented and challenging times whereby many have had their monthly wages reduced and businesses halted due to the impact of COVID-19.

While the Movement Control Order (MCO) has affected livelihoods and daily lives of Malaysians, the rakyat must abide by the government’s decision and understand that there is no compromise because it is about saving lives and the wellbeing of the nation, he said.

“Managing COVID-19 effectively is matter of life and death. We must not only adhere to the MCO, we should work together to ensure it’s success to flatten the infection curve,” he said.
