PUTRAJAYA, June 18 (Bernama) -- The Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) will strengthen efforts to engage young people in line with the royal address of the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, who wants religious leaders to play an active role in addressing the threats of extremism and misinformation in the digital era.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the department upholds the Sultan's address and will use it as a guide in implementing related programmes and initiatives.

"We will uphold and respond to the message and call made by the Sultan of Perak to the best of our ability. We will mainstream the messages and reminders conveyed by His Royal Highness," he told reporters after officiating the National and International Tokoh Ma'al Hijrah Premier Lecture 1448/2026 here today.

Last Friday, Sultan Nazrin Shah said religious leaders need to play a more active role in engaging with young people to address the growing threats of extremism, misinformation and polarisation in the digital era.

His Royal Highness said youths today face various challenges, including concerns over climate change, conflicts, economic uncertainty, digital polarisation and declining trust in social institutions.
