J-KOM 4.0 To Speed Up Handling Of Public Issues - DG

PUTRAJAYA, June 11 (Bernama) -- The Community Communications Department (J-KOM) will introduce a faster and more proactive approach through its “J-KOM 4.0” initiative in addressing public issues, said its new director-general Mohd Hisyamuddin Ghazali.

Mohd Hisyamuddin, who took over the department just four days ago, said J-KOM must operate more aggressively as a two-way communication channel between the public and the government, particularly on viral issues on social media.

“My job has two parts: communication must reach the people and from the people and community back to the government. So it is two-way communication,” he said.

He was speaking to the media after lodging a police report against businessman Albert Tei, who was alleged to have disrupted operations at the Ministry of Communications at the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters today.

He said J-KOM must be more responsive to public concerns, as issues affecting communities must be quickly channelled to the government leadership.

“J-KOM needs to take note of all viral issues because when the people are anxious, the community is anxious. When the community is anxious, J-KOM must take these matters and bring them upwards (to the government),” he said.

Mohd Hisyamuddin said the new approach would involve faster on-the-ground action, including immediate field visits once issues are raised by the public.

This includes his own visits to several locations that became public attention points following viral Rohingya-related issues on his first day as director-general.

He said the findings from those visits were presented to government leaders, including Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, and Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

He added that the government is taking seriously issues related to the influx of Rohingya refugees and foreign business activities allegedly affecting the income of local Malaysians, particularly Bumiputera communities.
