Economic Pressure Cannot Be Allowed To Erode People's Unity - Fadillah

09/06/2026 10:49 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof stressed that economic pressure following geopolitical tensions in West Asia cannot be allowed to erode the bonds of community unity.

He said geopolitical tensions not only affected the countries involved, but also had an impact on Malaysia through rising oil prices, supply chain disruptions and increasingly challenging living costs.

"The rise in the price of goods and the pressure on daily costs have caused anxiety and concern among the community. However, we must ensure that this economic pressure does not erode the bonds of community unity," he said in a Facebook post today.

Earlier, he chaired the National Unity Advisory Council (MPPN) Meeting Number 1 of 2026.

Fadillah said the MPPN also played a role in bringing the right narrative to the people to correct wrong perceptions, calm the situation and encourage the community not to be easily influenced by social media provocations due to economic pressures.

At the same time, he called on all MPPN members to continue to work closely with the Ministry of National Unity (KPN) in preserving harmony and the integrity of national integration.

Meanwhile, Fadillah announced that the results of the MPPN meeting discussions would be brought up for the information and approval of the Cabinet in the near future.
