LSS6 Solar Tender Set To Open This Year -- Fadillah

KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 (Bernama) -- Tender submissions for the Large-Scale Solar 6 (LSS6) programme are expected to open this year, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said.

Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA), said all future solar power projects would be required to incorporate Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to strengthen grid stability while expanding renewable energy capacity.

He said LSS6 was among the initiatives being accelerated by the government in response to global energy challenges.

“This is one of the areas we are focusing on. Under LSS6, solar projects must be paired with battery storage. This means all new solar power generation projects will be required to incorporate battery systems,” he told reporters after officiating at the signing ceremony of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) between Mikro MSC Bhd and Hong Kong Cospower Technology Co Ltd for utility-scale BESS projects in Malaysia.

In a separate development, Fadillah said Malaysia's fuel supply remained sufficient to meet any potential challenges arising from seasonal changes in the northern hemisphere.

“I think we are well prepared. Petronas (Petroliam Nasional Bhd) is exploring all possibilities. I believe it has secured the necessary crude oil supplies for the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mikro MSC Bhd executive director and chief executive officer Syed Mohd Hafiz Syed Mohd said the two-year MoA strengthens the company's position as Hong Kong Cospower Technology's exclusive strategic partner in Malaysia for BESS projects.

“Both parties will jointly identify, develop and execute BESS projects across Malaysia, encompassing public utility-scale and grid-scale developments, renewable energy-integrated projects such as solar-plus-storage and wind-plus-storage solutions, as well as selected commercial and industrial applications,” he said in his welcoming remarks at the event.
