CANBERRA, June 2 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Australia's population reached 28 million on Tuesday, according to the national statistics bureau, reported Xinhua.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) estimated, based on growth trends, that the national population hit 28 million around 6 am Australian Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, two years after the population surpassed 27 million people in 2024.
According to the ABS, on average, one person arrives from overseas to live in Australia every 59 seconds and there is one birth every two minutes and 16 seconds.
It estimates that there is one death every three minutes and 33 seconds and that one resident leaves Australia to live overseas every two minutes and 35 seconds.
The ABS projects that the population will reach 30 million in 2031.
The ABS will conduct the first national census since 2021 in August.
