KULAI, May 30 (Bernama) -- Dobi Kasih Rahmah set up by Komuniti MADANI Kulai in Jalan Manggis, Kampung Pertanian, here, has brought much-needed convenience to local residents with its long-anticipated 24-hour self-service laundry service.

Komuniti MADANI Kulai secretary Mohamad Shafwan Ani said the response from villagers has been very positive since the launderette began operations on May 11, particularly during rainy weather.

He said the idea for the launderette came about after the Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI (SejaTi MADANI) programme was introduced in 2024, addressing the need of residents who previously had to travel to Bandar Putra or Kulai town for laundry services.

“Komuniti MADANI Kulai chairman Mohd Syafiq M. Hatta and I submitted an application in 2024. It was approved within the same year, with funds received at the end of 2025,” he told Bernama.

He said renovation work on the premises, including the installation of electricity and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, was carried out from January to March.

While some consider the RM100,000 allocation insufficient, Mohamad Shafwan said they remained optimistic that, with proper planning, the project could be realised for community convenience.

“Alhamdulillah, with RM100,000 we were able to get two new washing machines and two elctric dryers,” he said.

Mohamad Shafwan said the premises’ rental has been paid until the end of the year, with around RM20,000 left for working capital, utilities and future planning.

Dobi Kasih Rahmah offers RM5 for a 36-minute wash and RM6 for a 50-minute drying cycle, alongside an infak (charity) programme for laundry essentials.

On long-term planning, Mohamad Shafwan said they plan to upgrade the facility with 20-kilogramme washers and dryers, replacing the existing 13-kilogramme machines, as well as introduce a quick response (QR) code payment system.

Meanwhile, Mohd Syafiq said the SejaTi MADANI programme has greatly helped boost the local economy, expressing hope that such initiatives would continue or receive higher allocations in future.

For Siti Normawati Ahmad, 53, who runs her business at a nearby shop, the self-service launderette has been a great convenience for her.

“Previously, there was no self-service launderette here. Now that we have one, it’s been a great help as we no longer have to travel far to Kulai town,” said the food seller, who has lived there for 35 years.

Housewife Amnah Jaafar, 63, said she is grateful for the facility, as its strategic location has made it easier to dry clothes, especially during the rainy season.

The SejaTi MADANI programme was introduced by the government to boost community economic activities through funding of between RM50,000 and RM100,000, aimed at empowering the socio-economic development of local residents.
