MIM To Strengthen Leadership Development As Malaysia Gains ASEAN Prominence

KUALA LUMPUR, May 21 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) will continue strengthening its role as a trusted platform for nurturing future leadership talent as Malaysia gains prominence as a strategic hub in ASEAN.

MIM president Datuk Yeoh Soo Min said Malaysia is well-positioned to lead in leadership and management development, supported by its strong understanding of the region’s culture, relationships and business landscape.

“Global knowledge is valuable and international expertise is important, but leadership development must also be rooted in Malaysian and ASEAN realities,” she told a press conference on MIM’s upcoming 60th Anniversary Royal Gala Dinner, today.

Also present were MIM chairman Datuk Zainal Amanshah Zainal Arshad, chief executive officer Kabenesh Eliathamby and vice-president Datuk Ng Tieh Chuan.

Yeoh said MIM’s next chapter would focus on ensuring leadership development remains relevant, rigorous and aligned with the evolving needs of organisations and the nation.

“Younger leaders taking on management roles at an earlier stage must be supported, while the institutional knowledge of senior leaders should continue to be valued.

“Learning becomes stronger when generations learn from each other,” Yeoh said, adding that the leadership development must keep pace with changing industry and organisational needs.

On MIM’s 60th Anniversary Royal Gala Dinner, she said the royal guests of honour would be the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin,  reflecting that leadership development is not merely a professional agenda but also a national responsibility.

Yeoh said the gala dinner, scheduled for Aug 8 at The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur, is expected to gather about 700 guests from the government, business, academia and the professional community, besides honouring individuals who have contributed to management and national development.

Since its establishment in 1966, MIM has empowered more than one million professionals and over 5,000 organisations through leadership development programmes, executive education, professional certifications, conferences and strategic collaborations.
