59th Anniversary: Bernama Must Uphold Legacy, Stay Relevant In Digital Era - Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil hopes that the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) will continue to uphold its legacy as a respected national news agency and remain relevant in facing the challenges of the digital age.

In conjunction with Bernama's 59th anniversary celebration today, he also prayed that the agency would continue to excel in serving the religion, race and nation.

Fahmi said that after almost six decades of playing a role as the heart of the country's information delivery, Bernama remains steadfast as a news source that the people trust based on the accuracy, credibility and integrity of all its employees.

“Highest appreciation to all BERNAMA staff for their commitment, dedication and professionalism in delivering fast, accurate and authoritative reports since 1967.

“Happy 59th Anniversary, BERNAMA!” he posted on Facebook.

Bernama was established under the Bernama Act 1967 and began operations on May 20, 1968, with a text news service before expanding to photo, radio, television and digital media services.

The news agency currently has 967 staff consisting of permanent, contract and part-time employees.
