KUCHING, May 19 (Bernama) -- The 310-beds Sarawak Cancer Centre is currently at the tender procurement stage with the Public Works Department (JKR), Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said.

Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak’s Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister said the contract is expected to be awarded with the issuance of the Letter of Acceptance in the first quarter of 2027.

“The project construction duration is five years, and it is scheduled to be completed in 2032. I had urged Federal JKR to expedite the project with the aim of completing by 2030,” he said while winding up the debate for his ministry on the motion of thanks for the Governor’s Address at the State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

Dr Sim also thanked the Sarawak State Government for approving an advance of RM1 billion for the project, which will be reimbursed by the Federal Government at a later date.

“On top of that, the State Government also approved an additional RM500 million plus for the procurement of medical equipment for the project,” he added.
