MOSCOW, May 14 (Bernama-Sputnik/RIA Novosti) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed China’s interest in purchasing oil from the United States, the White House said on Thursday, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.
Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump arrived in China for a three-day visit.
“The two sides agreed that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open to support the free flow of energy. President Xi also made clear China’s opposition to the militarisation of the Strait and any attempt to impose transit fees, and expressed interest in purchasing more American oil to reduce China’s dependence on the Strait in the future,” the statement said.
Xi Jinping and Trump also discussed expanding US business access to China’s market and increasing investment.
Separately, both leaders agreed that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons.
“Both countries agreed that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon,” the White House said.
