Jimmy Targets Maiden Title With Su Yin This Season

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- National mixed doubles shuttler Jimmy Wong is determined to clinch at least one title this season with his new partner Cheng Su Yin, starting with their debut at the 2026 Malaysia Masters this month.

Jimmy, who had previously fallen short in several finals alongside former partner Lai Pei Jing, sees 2026 as his best chance yet to end his title drought following his return to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

“I hope to win at least one title because from seven finals, I didn’t manage to win any. So this time, I hope to achieve that target,” he said, referring to his record of seven runner-up finishes as a professional player.

Despite his high ambitions, he admitted he has yet to fully recover from a hand injury, but remains confident his rehabilitation is progressing well.

On his new partnership, Jimmy said the decision to part ways with Pei Jing was made with his long-term career in mind.

“...my former partner is already a senior player and may only continue for another two or three years. With Su Yin, the timeline is longer, so it is better for future planning,” he said.

Jimmy also acknowledged that he now carries the responsibility of guiding Su Yin, sharing the experience and knowledge he has gained over the years.

He further praised BAM’s training facilities, describing them as significantly better than what he experienced as an independent professional, which has helped to speed up his recovery and preparations for upcoming tournaments.

The Malaysia Masters is scheduled to take place from May 19 to 24 at the Unifi Arena, Bukit Jalil.
