BRUSSELS, May 1 (Bernama-Anadolu) --The Trump administration has determined that "for War Powers Resolution purposes, the hostilities that began on Feb 28 (against Iran) have terminated," a senior US official told NBC News, reported Anadolu Ajansi.
The remarks come just ahead of a 60-day deadline on May 1, after which the president must terminate military operations unless Congress formally declares war or passes an authorisation.
"Both parties agreed to a 2-week ceasefire on Tues, April 7 that has since been extended," NBC News reporter Monica Alba said in a post on the X platform, citing the senior administration official as saying.
Alba added that the source confirmed that "there has been no exchange of fire between US Armed Forces and Iran since Tues, April 7."
The US and Israel began strikes on Iran on Feb 28, prompting retaliation from Tehran against US allies in the Gulf and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
A ceasefire was announced on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, followed by talks in Islamabad on April 11 to 12, but an agreement could not be reached.
Trump later unilaterally extended the truce without setting a new time frame, at Pakistan’s request.
