Sultan Nazrin Graces CLP Convocation, 326 Grads Receive Certificates

KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah, today graced the 29th Convocation ceremony of the Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) examination 2025 at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur here.

His Royal Highness was accompanied by Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, who is also the Malaysian Legal Profession Qualifying Board chairman, and other board members.

At the function, Sultan Nazrin presented certificates to 326 graduates, in addition to awards for the best overall graduate and top performers in each CLP subject.

The overall best graduate award went to Guek Yee Yun, who received RM10,000 in cash and a certificate in recognition of his outstanding achievement in obtaining the highest aggregate score in the examination. 

For the best subject award, Rachel Lo Wun excelled in General Paper and Criminal Procedure, Tan Xuan Fei in the Evidence subject, A. Sucndravathy (Professional Practice) and Ariana Ng Chor Yee (Civil Procedure), with each award offering a cash prize of RM1,000 and a certificate.

Earlier, Mohd Dusuki, in his opening speech, said 326 out of 921 candidates for the 2025 CLP examination, with 20 getting a conditional pass, while 575 failed.

“The examination results are determined purely on merit, with no quota imposed on the number of passes. The results are determined in a fair, transparent and professional manner,” he said.

He said the board also enhanced examination standards by appointing question setters and examiners from among credible and experienced individuals, including judges, judicial commissioners and university lecturers, to ensure its implementation meets the standards of the legal profession.

Mohd Dusuki said the board also reviewed the list of recognised institutions of higher education and foreign law degrees, and recognised nine new institutions effective Jan 1 to allow more graduates to sit for the examination.

In addition, he said that new guidelines for foreign law graduates have also been put in place since April  1 to ensure that the qualifications obtained remain relevant to the current needs of the profession.

Since its introduction in 1984, a total of 15,681 candidates have passed the CLP examination.

The Malaysian Legal Profession Qualifying Board is responsible for determining qualifications for legal practice in the country and conducting the CLP examination for candidates who do not meet the requirements for admission as advocates and solicitors.
