KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 (Bernama) -- Brunei representatives DPMM FC have reaffirmed their commitment to remain in the Malaysia League (M-League) for the long term, amid rumours that several Super League clubs may drop down to the semi-pro league due to financial constraints.

DPMM general manager Md Ali Momin said the intention aligns with the club’s goal of developing local players to be more professional and competitive.

“We definitely intend to play in the M-League for the long term because, for us, it is a competitive league that offers the kind of challenges we are looking for.

“Our aim is to develop our local players to be more professional and competitive in every game,” he said after a Malaysian Football League (MFL) roundtable discussion with M-League clubs here yesterday.

Md Ali said they had also given their feedback regarding the standard of refereeing, which he admitted needed to be more consistent.

“Inconsistent decisions result in less entertaining matches. So, we suggest that referees be more careful in making decisions in every game,” he said.

M-League newcomers DPMM currently occupy eighth spot in the Super League standings with 23 points from 21 matches, with three matches remaining.

The MFL roundtable discussion with M-League club representatives was held following calls from several clubs for a formal platform to discuss critical issues, including governance, finances and the league’s direction amid ongoing challenges.

Among the recurring issues often raised are delayed salary payments to players and team officials by some clubs and rising operational costs that are increasingly burdening teams.

The roundtable discussion yesterday was also unexpectedly attended by Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) owner, the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail.

His Royal Highness also shared his views and stressed that several key issues needed immediate attention, including grassroots development, refereeing, sponsorship and financial discipline among clubs.
