BUKIT MERTAJAM, April 26 (Bernama) -- From failing grades to top SPM results, students are turning their academic performance around through the e-Tuisyen Rakyat programme at National Information Dissemination Centres (NADI).

The e-Tuisyen Rakyat initiative under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has proven effective in helping students improve their academic performance, particularly in core subjects.

For Muhammad Syawal Rozlan, 18, from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Penanti, who scored 7As in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), the turning point came after he joined e-tuition at NADI Taman Machang Bubok in December 2024. He had learned about the programme from his school counsellor.

The youngest of five siblings, who lives in Tanah Liat, admitted he previously struggled with Mathematics and Science, even failing several examinations.

“Previously, I was weak in Mathematics and Science and had failed several exams, but after joining tuition at NADI, my results improved to 4As and eventually 7As in the SPM, Alhamdulillah.

“Tuition at NADI is enjoyable as it offers complete facilities, including devices, stable internet access and an interactive teaching approach by the teachers. Even though it is conducted online, we can still ask anything we do not understand during the class,” he told Bernama when met at NADI Kubang Semang here.

Muhammad Syawal obtained As in seven subjects — Bahasa Melayu, English, History, Mathematics, Islamic Education, Science and Domestic Wiring — and plans to pursue studies in electrical engineering.

Another high-achiever, Aishah Mirza Sofeah Mohamad Shaharudin, 18, a former student of SMK Tasek Gelugor who initially struggled with several core subjects, showed significant improvement after joining e-tuition at NADI Tasek Gelugor in December 2024.

Attending classes four times a week, including weekends, Aishah described the more relaxed and interactive teaching approach as helping to enhance her understanding, particularly in subjects such as Mathematics and Science, which had previously been challenging for her.

“The way the tuition teachers at NADI teach is more engaging, easier to understand and more interactive. It is enjoyable to attend tuition there with friends as we can learn together in a relaxed environment, while teachers place special emphasis on how to achieve excellent results,” said Aishah, who recently scored 7As and 1B in the SPM.

A similar success story was shared by Muhammad Luqman Hazim Abdul Nasir, 18, from SMK Mengkuang, who previously recorded unsatisfactory results with several failed subjects.

However, his participation in the e-Tuisyen Rakyat programme at NADI Penanti brought significant improvement in his academic performance, enabling him to achieve 4As, 2B+ and 1B in the SPM.

“I failed History and Mathematics before, and several other subjects were also weak, but after attending classes at NADI, I began to see improvement and my SPM trial results showed progress.

“The teaching here is not strictly confined to the syllabus but focuses more on engaging and easy-to-understand techniques, which helped me stay focused,” he said, adding that he hopes to further his studies in Computer Science.

Muhammad Luqman Hazim said he learned about the programme through his mother, Norizan Shafiee, 54, who informed him about the opportunity to join the additional classes after becoming a NADI member.

Yesterday, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the e-Tuisyen Rakyat programme would be made a core initiative to be implemented widely across all NADI nationwide this year, following the success of 36 students who attended online tuition at NADI and achieved 7As and above in the recent SPM examination.

In 2025, more than 42,000 Form Five students participated in the e-Tuisyen Rakyat programme, which was implemented at nearly 1,100 NADI centres nationwide.
