KUANTAN, April 24 (Bernama) -- Pahang recorded the highest average accommodation occupancy rate in Malaysia for three consecutive years, achieving 76.3 per cent in 2025, further strengthening its position as one of the country’s leading tourism destinations.

State Unity, Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Leong Yu Man said the achievement was based on more than 36,000 registered accommodation rooms statewide, according to official data from Tourism Malaysia’s Strategic Planning Division.

She said the performance had also shown that Pahang remained a top choice for both domestic and international tourists seeking a comprehensive destination offering nature, beaches and islands, highlands, cultural heritage and local gastronomy.

“In 2025, total domestic and international tourist arrivals reached 15.28 million, and we are optimistic of achieving the target of 15.5 million visitors this year,” she said in a statement today.

According to her, five districts that recorded the most encouraging tourist arrival performance were Bentong, Kuantan, Cameron Highlands, Temerloh and Rompin.

Leong said popular destinations such as Genting Highlands, Pulau Tioman, Cameron Highlands, Taman Negara and Kuantan city continue to be key attractions and remain relevant on the national tourism map, with visitor numbers increasing over time.

She said the success was driven by continuous promotional efforts, the organisation of large-scale tourism events, strategic collaboration with industry players and the state government’s commitment to strengthening the tourism sector as a key economic driver in Pahang.

In 2023, Pahang recorded the highest average occupancy rate at 74.1 per cent, followed by 75.6 per cent in 2024.
