12 Visually Impaired UM Students To Join International Mobility Programme In Jakarta - Zambry

KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 (Bernama) -- Twelve visually impaired students from the University of Malaya (UM) will participate in an international mobility programme in Jakarta, Indonesia, under the International & Inclusive Learning for Diverse Excellence (INCLUDE) Programme.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, in a Facebook post, said the students would undergo the mobility programme at Universitas Multimedia Nusantara as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s inclusive education agenda.

“This is among the approaches we emphasise at the Ministry of Higher Education in ensuring truly inclusive, fair access to higher education while opening up global exposure opportunities to all students regardless of their background or limitations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zambry also announced a contribution of RM10,000 from Yayasan Perkasa Siswa to facilitate the programme and ease the needs of the students involved.

He said the initiative was in line with the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding tuition fee exemptions for students with disabilities at public higher education institutions (IPTA), polytechnics and community colleges.

According to him, the move is expected to benefit about 3,000 students with disabilities as part of the implementation of the Malaysia Higher Education Blueprint (2026–2035) in strengthening inclusive education nationwide.

Zambry also expressed appreciation for the students’ spirit, adding that he had the opportunity to learn the basics of Braille during his engagement with them.
