KUALA LUMPUR, April 21 (Bernama) -- The MADANI Government’s priority in addressing the current global supply crisis is to protect the people, maintain supplies and basic necessities, support industries, and ensure that the nation’s growth momentum is not severely affected.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said Malaysia is managing a prolonged and evolving crisis requiring policy adjustments, cost management, assurance of basic needs and sustained economic momentum, with all government decisions and actions reflecting a swift, focused and data-driven approach.

“We acknowledge the risks that are taking place, but we are also confident that with strong coordination among ministries, industry cooperation, and high implementation discipline, Malaysia is capable of navigating this period of uncertainty in a more structured manner.

“During this period, all parties are expected to make prudent adjustments together in support of the government’s efforts to stretch available supplies,” he said during a special briefing on the global supply crisis, which was televised live today.

He said among the approaches being implemented are intensifying campaigns promoting good practices such as prudent spending, energy and electricity conservation, and more efficient travel planning to reduce fuel usage and daily costs.

According to him, the approaches aims to ensure that adjustments take place in a structured and controlled manner should the period of uncertainty persist, as the continuity of all critical industries is part of the nation’s economic survival strategy.

“This crisis once again reminds us that energy must not be viewed merely as a pricing issue, but as a matter of economic resilience, supply security and the country’s ability to adapt to external shocks through medium- and long-term measures that must move in tandem,” he added.
