MELAKA, April 21 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government remains committed to strengthening the development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) through three main initiatives aimed at producing more skilled workers and successful entrepreneurs.
Deputy state executive councillor (exco) for Investment, Industry and TVET Development, Datuk Khaidhirah Abu Zahar, said the strategic plan includes the Technopreneur programme, the development of an integrated TVET database, and the establishment of the Melaka Centre of Excellence (MCOE).
“The Technopreneur was introduced to train TVET graduates, especially youths in Melaka, so that they not only become skilled workers but are also able to grow as entrepreneurs and eventually become employers.
“Our goal is to produce TVET graduates who are not just job seekers, but capable of becoming successful entrepreneurs who also create job opportunities for others,” she said this after the Melaka TVET Appreciation Night 2026 held in Banda Hilir last night.
Earlier, the event was officiated by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh and was also attended by state Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs exco Datuk Rahmad Mariman.
Khaidhirah added that the establishment of the MCOE as a state centre of excellence - designed to coordinate training for both prospective employees and future employers in a more structured way - is expected to be fully operational by 2027.
The MCOE is being developed entirely in collaboration with industry players to ensure that every training programme planned truly meets current job market needs.
“It is designed based on the real needs of the industry and has received recognition from the industry itself. Whatever the industry requires, we will match it accurately.
“Previously, we had already laid the groundwork and received very strong commitment from industry players. Now, we want to ensure that every programme component truly aligns with industry needs,” she said.
She added that the state government has also launched the official the state’s TVET portal at www.tvetmelaka.com as a one-stop centre for information on programmes, training, trainee intake, and opportunities to participate in various TVET initiatives.
She said the portal also allows industry players to review talent development channels provided by the state government, as well as share input to ensure industry needs can be matched more effectively.
At the same event, the Melaka TVET Council also allocated a total of RM150,000 to 30 higher education institutions (IPTs) in the state to strengthen TVET training and development programmes, with each institution receiving RM5,000.
