Global Sumud Marks New Phase In Struggle For Palestine's Liberation - MAPIM

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) --The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), a moral movement symbolising the awakening of humanity’s conscience, has emerged as a new phase in the struggle for justice and liberation in Palestine, the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (MAPIM) said.

MAPIM president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said the movement reflects the evolution of Palestinian steadfastness into a broader international solidarity effort, driven by civil society, humanitarian actors and peoples of conscience across continents.

He said initiatives such as international flotillas, advocacy campaigns and solidarity networks show that the Palestinian cause is no longer isolated, but increasingly embedded within a globalised movement of resistance and humanitarian support.

Mohd Azmi said this global solidarity also intersects with wider regional dynamics, including Iran’s support for Palestinian resistance, which he described as part of broader opposition to Israeli occupation and domination.

“Iran’s support for Palestinian resistance is rooted in its opposition to Israeli expansionism. It challenges the dominance of Western-backed regional order and seeks to position Palestine as a central cause of justice in West Asia.

“Even among global solidarity movements, there is recognition that the wider conflict involving Iran is linked to the unresolved question of Palestine and the ongoing impunity for Israeli actions,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Azmi added that the convergence of grassroots resilience, international mobilisation and state-level resistance has created a multi-layered struggle, with Palestine remaining central to the pursuit of justice.

However, he stressed that the Palestinian cause must remain anchored in justice and international law, and must not be reduced to geopolitical instrumentalisation or turned into a proxy battlefield.

According to him, support for Palestine must continue to prioritise the protection of civilians while preserving the moral clarity that  underpins the struggle.

MAPIM also affirmed that the liberation of Palestine was inseparable from broader regional justice, while Al-Aqsa remains a unifying symbol for the Muslim ummah and humanity.

“The future of Palestine will not be determined by military power alone, but by the convergence of a people who refuse to disappear, a global movement refusing silence and a regional reality rejecting the normalisation of injustice,” he added.
