PELABUHAN KLANG, April 17 (Bernama) -- The Home Affairs Ministry (KDN) seized 6,620 Quran texts and related materials worth RM378,171.92 under Ops Mulia from Jan 1 to March 31 this year.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the operation, conducted by the ministry’s Enforcement and Control Division, involved inspections at 1,758 premises to ensure compliance with the Printing of Quranic Texts Act 1986.
He said enforcement action was taken against copies of the Quran that contain errors or fail to meet standards set by the religious authorities.
“Any alteration, even to a vowel mark or letter, can change the meaning. Therefore, the integrity of the mushaf must be preserved,” he said after the Quran Purification Programme aboard the Maritime Ship (KM) Tun Fatimah here today.
Saifuddin said 44 investigation papers were opened during the period for further action, including prosecution or compounds.
He said enforcement was not limited to printed materials, but also covered digital and audio versions, including those sold on e-commerce platforms.
“All forms are subject to approval by authorities comprising Islamic scholars and experts who assess the content comprehensively. Even mushaf with barcodes are monitored to ensure accuracy and approval,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said 8,672 Quran texts and materials worth RM2.7 million were disposed of during today’s programme through the release of 1.5-tonne compressed blocks into waters off Port Klang.
The disposal followed a strict purification process involving tearing, grinding, crushing and burning before the materials were formed into blocks, he said.
Saifuddin also said the Jom Exchange Al-Quran (JEQ) programme, introduced in 2023, had recorded positive progress, with 725 programmes nationwide involving the exchange of 76,235 damaged, worn-out or uncertified mushaf for new KDN-certified copies.
He said the programme was recognised by the Malaysian Book of Records for The Largest Quran Exchange, reflecting KDN’s continued efforts to preserve the sanctity of the Quran and raise public awareness.
