MELAKA, April 17 (Bernama) -- Tenders for the construction of the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters (IPD) complex and the Tanjung Minyak police station are expected to open as early as February next year, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
He said that both projects are currently being refined at the Value Assessment Lab (VA Lab) under the Ministry of Economy to enable the government to finalise the scope of work, project costs and other related matters.
“This value assessment study will be carried out in June, after which the next step will be taken, namely to call for tenders from qualified contractors.
“We hope that the construction of the Melaka Tengah IPD and the Tanjung Minyak police station can begin by the middle of next year,” he said when met by reporters at a meet-and-greet with police retirees and personnel from the Tanjung Minyak police station here today.
Also present were Melaka senior executive councillor for Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Datuk Rais Yasin and Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar.
Meanwhile, Rais, who is also the Paya Rumput assemblyman, said the construction of the Tanjung Minyak police station must be expedited as the station currently has only 17 personnel on duty to safeguard about 9,000 residents.
He said the police-to-population ratio is significantly high, given that Paya Rumput is currently the most densely populated area in Melaka.
“With the construction of the Tanjung Minyak police station and the new Melaka Tengah IPD compex, I am confident it will make life safer, more comfortable and harmonious for the people, especially those in the Paya Rumput constituency,” he said.
The federal government had previously planned to build a new Melaka Tengah IPD complex in Krubong on a 4.94-hectare site, with an allocation of approximately RM250 million.
