PUTRAJAYA, April 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) is planning to implement a structured and high-impact learning programme this year to ensure that local journalists remain with integrity and are prepared to face the increasingly complex and digital technology-driven media landscape.

Its president Datuk Yong Soo Heong said the initiative would be implemented through strategic collaboration with relevant agencies and higher learning institutions, in line with efforts to strengthen the country's media training ecosystem.

"MPI is committed to ensuring that Malaysian journalists remain with integrity, competitive and are prepared to face the changing media landscape that is increasingly complex and driven by digital technology," he said in a statement after chairing the MPI Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in hybrid format today.

Yong also encouraged media practitioners from corporate communications units to participate in the training programme organised by MPI this year.

The meeting was attended by 33 members including proxies representing their respective organisations.

Among those physically present were the chief executive officer of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin; Media Prima Berhad Television Network News and Current Affairs group editor Azhari Muhidin; and Media Chinese International group editor-in-chief (Malaysia) Datuk Kuik Cheng Kang.

According to the statement, the meeting also agreed to maintain the term of office of the MPI president, deputy president and vice president to three years, in line with Clause 77(b) of the MPI Constitution.
