Over 98 Per Cent of Sabah's Teaching Posts Filled - James

KOTA KINABALU, April 10 (Bernama) -- A total of 98.22 per cent of the teaching posts in Sabah have now been filled, ensuring the smooth operation of schools in the state, said Sabah Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk James Ratib.

He said that of the total, 86.75 per cent are Sabahans, in line with the state government’s aspiration to empower local talent and build the strength of the education workforce from within the state.

“This development reflects the effectiveness of policy coordination as well as the continued commitment between the state government and the Education Service Commission (SPP) in ensuring that the need for teaching staff is consistently met with sufficient and quality personnel,” he said in a statement here today.

Earlier, James received a courtesy call from an SPP delegation led by its chairman Datuk Adzman Talib. Also present was the state ministry's permanent secretary Datuk Hassan Mahali.

The visit aimed to strengthen strategic cooperation in the development of the state’s education sector, including discussions on the management of education services, teacher appointments and placements, as well as the need to enhance critical fields that support Sabah’s science, technology and innovation agenda.

Other matters discussed included the emphasis on developing local talent and mastering strategic fields, which are seen as important in preparing a more competitive future generation in Sabah.

The SPP, in the same statement, reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting Sabah’s needs through efficient and responsive management of education human resources.

The visit also strengthened coordination between the federal and state levels to ensure Sabah’s education system continues to progress, remain inclusive and stay relevant to current needs.
