Digital Realty Opens NRT14 Data Centre To Support AI Infrastructure In Japan

KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Bernama) -- Digital Realty, a cloud- and carrier-neutral data centre platform, has opened its NRT14 data centre (NRT14) at the NRT campus in Inzai City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan.

The facility is the third at the campus, following NRT10 and NRT12, bringing total information technology (IT) power capacity to nearly 100 megawatts (MW).

Developed by MC Digital Realty, a joint venture with Mitsubishi Corporation, NRT14 features a high-power, high-density environment with hybrid liquid- and air-cooling capabilities optimised for next-generation graphics processing units (GPUs) to support growing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.

Digital Realty Managing Director and Head of Asia Pacific, Serene Nah said the facility’s next-generation infrastructure and the company’s global data centre platform provide a strong foundation for customers to drive AI innovation across Asia Pacific.

According to a statement, NRT14 is among the first facilities in Japan to achieve DGX-Ready Data Center certification, supporting high-density AI workloads exceeding 100 kilowatts (kW), as well as high-performance computing, machine learning and virtual reality applications.

The facility provides a hybrid cooling environment for stable GPU operations and supports high-density colocation services of up to 150 kW per rack, along with a low-latency, high-speed network environment.

Digital Realty said these capabilities address rising demand in the Tokyo metropolitan area for scalable and flexible data centres to support next-generation AI infrastructure.

To support sustainability, electricity used in the facility’s colocation data hall will be matched with 100 per cent renewable energy through non-fossil fuel certificates.

The facility will be integrated into PlatformDIGITAL, providing customers access to a global network of cloud and IT services, network providers and data centres, while ServiceFabric will allow customers to manage hybrid IT infrastructure and AI workloads from a single point.
