PUTRAJAYA, April 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysians have been urged to strengthen humanitarian solidarity and contribute in various ways to support Palestinians, as the country dispatches a delegation for the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 (GSF) mission today.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said that despite ongoing geopolitical tensions and the global energy crisis, Malaysians must not overlook the continued suffering of the Palestinian people.

He said support can take many forms, including prayers, financial contributions and efforts to raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis.

“This is not merely a religious issue, but a universal humanitarian concern that requires support from all, regardless of background,” he said after officiating a corporate engagement event here.

Zulkifli added that a more coordinated approach to aid is being implemented through NGO alignment under the Op Ihsan platform, ensuring assistance is delivered more effectively and with integrity.

The minister said the initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) and other religious agencies, strengthening Malaysia’s role in global humanitarian efforts.

“It is time for us to operate under a single umbrella in the name of Malaysia, so that all assistance efforts are better coordinated and achieve greater impact,” he said.

The GSF delegation, comprising more than 80 vessels and 1,000 participants worldwide, is scheduled to depart from Barcelona to Gaza on 12 April in a bid to challenge Israel’s blockade of the territory.

The mission combines coordinated maritime efforts with international mobilisation on land, including solidarity campaigns, legal advocacy and grassroots pressure across multiple countries.

Malaysia’s 30-Container Humanitarian Mission to Gaza and participation in the flotilla will also include the Malaysian National News Agency’s (Bernama) journalist Ahmad Aidil Syukri Hamzah and photographer Zulfadhli Zulkifli.
