GEORGE TOWN, April 4 (Bernama) — A stoppage-time equaliser by Sabah FC dashed Penang FC’s hopes of taking a goal advantage to Likas as both teams settled for a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the 2025/2026 Challenge Cup final at the City Stadium here tonight.
A foul in front of goal by Penang goalkeeper Mohamad Ramdhan Ab Hamid on Sabah defender Gabriel Peres during injury time resulted in a penalty being awarded to the visitors.
Gabriel calmly converted the spot-kick past Mohamad Ramdhan, much to the disappointment of thousands of home supporters in attendance.
Earlier, the hosts had taken the lead through their prolific striker Dylan Wenzel-Halls, who netted the opener in the 71st minute.
The goal came from a long pass by teammate Faith Friday Obilor, which Dylan controlled well inside the penalty box before coolly finishing past Sabah goalkeeper Damien Lim.
The two sides will meet again for the second leg at Stadium Likas on April 19.
