KUALA LUMPUR, March  31 (Bernama) -- The 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results for Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Taman Yarl here mark the school's best performance in six years, reflecting the concerted efforts of all parties - teachers, students and parents.

SMK Taman Yarl principal Dr Ahmad Kamal Ariffin said the majority of the school's students are from the B40 group, but continued government support, particularly in providing more digital learning facilities and a conducive learning environment, helped improve their academic performance.

"About 95 per cent of our students are from the B40 group, who face various constraints, including in terms of socioeconomic support and self motivation. But, with the support from various parties and improvements to facilities, such as digital learning tools and school infrastructure repairs, students were able to engage in learning more comfortably and effectively,” he said when met by Bernama.

At the same time, he said all the school's teachers remained committed to providing guidance, preparing brief notes and applying creative teaching methods to ensure students better understood every subject.

One of the candidates, 18-year-old Syaza Mia Ellysha Muhammad Faizal, described her result as "unexpected” after facing challenges during her schooling period, especially when she had to undergo Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She said the support of the teachers, who diligently prepared brief notes that were easy to understand, and the continued support from their families proved to be a big help to her and the other students.

"I was down during the trial examination, but I forced myself to bounce back. I started waking up as early as 3 am to revise and improve my focus daily. Alhamdulillah, I finally got a good result,” she told Bernama.

Her mother, 49-year-old Salwah Sahirin, who works as a supervisor, said she was proud of her daughter's achievement and for never giving up.

Another student, Muhammad Amierul Ikmal, 18, was also thankful that he did better than expected, attributing his success to his group-studying method and the support of the dedicated teachers.

"I actually targeted five As, but I'm still thankful that I got four. My biggest surprise was getting a B in Mathematics, because I've never done well in this subject,” he said.

His mother, 35-year-old Nurul Jannah Tarmim, who works as a security guard, said that she and her husband would always encourage him, especially when he had to follow PdPR during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Those were tough days because that was his first time undergoing PdPR, and he struggled to keep up with the syllabus. But my husband and I made an effort to purchase extra data. Alhamdulillah, looking at his excellent result today, I am proud and emotional,” she said.
