Congestion Starts Forming On Routes To The Capital - LLM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 24 (Bernama) -- Traffic on several of the country’s major highways is reported to be congested tonight as people begin returning to the capital after the Aidilfitri holidays.

A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesperson said northbound congestion was worst from Gopeng to Tapah and Bidor after an accident.

“The crash, involving a container lorry and a motorcycle at KM347.1, disrupted traffic despite the site being fully cleared by 9.15 pm,” he told Bernama.

He said heavier traffic slowed movement from Sungai Perak to Ipoh North and from Pematang Pauh to Perai, while southbound vehicles were also reported to be slowing at several city-bound hotspots, including the stretch from Pedas-Linggi to Port Dickson.

For motorists heading to Johor, heavy traffic was reported between Simpang Renggam and Sedenak.

Meanwhile, east coast traffic slowed from Karak to Genting Sempah towards Gombak Toll Plaza as vehicle numbers steadily rose.

He also reported an accident on the ELITE Highway at KM21.9, between Gamuda Cove and Putrajaya, which disrupted traffic across the Klang Valley.

The LLM predicts traffic to the capital will peak on Saturday as city residents return home, so motorists are urged to plan ahead, check their vehicles, and rest well before long journeys.

“Drivers should stick to speed limits and keep a safe distance to prevent accidents in the final days of the festive season,” he added.

Motorists can access up-to-date traffic information via the LLM’s toll-free line at 1-800-88-7752 or through navigation apps to avoid major congestion points.
