Aidilfitri: Marhamah Calls For Moderation In Festive Spending

18/03/2026 06:30 PM

MARANG, March 18 (Bernama) -- Muslims are encouraged to practise wasatiyyah (moderation) in celebrating Aidilfitri, particularly in spending, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Marhamah Rosli.

She said moderation should also be practised in all aspects of life, not only during the festive season.

“At all times, we should practise wasatiyyah, which means being moderate in spending, not only during Syawal but also in Ramadan,” she said after a Ziarah Kasih Ramadan programme here today.

Marhamah said the approach is also in line with the Prime Minister’ Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call for the government to avoid holding large-scale open houses or celebrations.

“Some may be sceptical of the suggestion, but this approach is not only relevant during times of crisis,” she said.

She added that with only a few days remaining in Ramadan, Muslims should reflect on whether they have truly embraced wasatiyyah in their daily lives, adding that the values of moderation should extend beyond spending to include speech and overall conduct.

Meanwhile, Marhamah said the spirit of Ramadan should be carried into Syawal.

“We understand that in Syawal there is freedom to eat and spend, but the question is whether we truly carry the spirit of Ramadan into Syawal,” she said.

“Let us practise moderation at all times, not only during crises, as all actions and spending will be accounted for in the hereafter,” she added.
