Sabah PKR Holds Mini Convention

KOTA KINABALU, March 15 (Bernama) -- Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) today held a mini convention as part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its grassroots machinery in preparation for the 16th General Election (GE16).

Its chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said the mini convention also aimed to gather party leaders and boost the morale of its members, currently estimated at about 150,000.

“After this, we will move to hold annual general meetings at each division before organising the party congress in June,” he said after attending the mini convention and the launching of the Annual General Meetings of the divisions at the state level here today.

The mini convention and the launching ceremony of the divisions’ Annual General Meetings were officiated by PKR president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Elaborating further, Mustapha, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs), said Anwar had also reminded the party machinery to better understand critical issues related to Sabah, including the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the state’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement, to facilitate clearer explanations to the people.

In another development, when asked whether he would contest the Sepanggar parliamentary seat in GE16, he expressed readiness to do so again if given the green light by the party leadership.

“If the president (Anwar) allows it, God willing, I am still interested in contesting in Sepanggar. We are ready to fight and ultimately the people will decide,” he said.
