Camera Traps Installed In Kluang After Tiger Sighting Goes Viral

JOHOR BAHRU, March 14 (Bernama) -- The Department of Wildlife and National Parks  (PERHILITAN) has installed camera traps at several strategic locations in Kampung Rahmat, Sri Lalang, Kluang, to monitor the movement of a tiger reportedly seen in the area.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the action was taken following the spread of information on social media regarding the presence of the wild animal.

He said the monitoring effort was important to ensure the safety of residents while allowing authorities to assess the actual situation on the ground.

“I personally went to the location with PERHILITAN officers to review the situation at the reported site.

“Initial monitoring found that PERHILITAN had taken swift action by installing camera traps at several strategic locations to monitor the animal’s movements and identify the frequency of its presence,” he said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.

Ling also advised the public not to create unnecessary speculation or panic over the incident.

He stressed that cooperation from the community is crucial in helping authorities manage the situation effectively.

At the same time, he reminded the public not to approach, chase or provoke the animal if they encounter the wild tiger.

“Immediately leave the area and inform PERHILITAN or the nearest authorities so that further action can be taken.

“The state government will continue to work closely with PERHILITAN to monitor the situation from time to time and ensure appropriate measures are taken for the safety of the community as well as the conservation of wildlife,” he said.

Earlier, a one-minute and 40-second video went viral on social media showing a member of the public encountering a large Malayan tiger while travelling in a vehicle near bushes in Kampung Rahmat, Sri Lalang, Kluang.
