PKPS To Increase Selangor Food Reserves To Three Months

14/03/2026 10:50 AM

KLANG, March 14 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) will increase the state’s food reserves from one month to three months to strengthen food supply preparedness.

PKPS Group chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi said the move would be implemented through the expansion of the State Food Warehouse Programme this year to address potential disruptions in the global supply chain.

“The current global geopolitical situation, including tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, could affect oil and gas supplies and subsequently disrupt the food supply chain.

“We experienced a similar situation during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that experience highlighted the importance of having stronger food supply preparedness,” he said at an iftar event hosted by PKPS with the media at Wyndham Acmar here last night.

He also announced the launch of the Agribusiness Transformation Plan 2026–2030 (SEED2030), aimed at strengthening the state’s food production sector.

He said the plan targets a 65 per cent increase in oil palm production, equivalent to an additional 735,000 tonnes, while chicken production is projected to reach 20.1 million birds during the same period.

“PKPS will also develop a dairy farm project in Bukit Tagar, Hulu Selangor, which is expected to begin in the second quarter of this year with a production capacity of about 32,850 litres of milk per day,” he said.

He added that price intervention programmes and the Rahmah Sales initiative would continue to help the people of Selangor obtain food items at more affordable prices.

Mohamad Khairil also said PKPS’ Ehsan brand products have expanded into several international markets, including Makkah, Madinah, Bosnia, Manchester, Paris, Australia, Yemen and Oman.  Paris, Australia, Yemen and Oman.
