IPOH, March 9 (Bernama) -- The Raintown Short Film Festival 2026 is now open for submissions under the theme “After the Rain”, with the festival set to take place in Taiping this September.
Festival founder Jacky Yeap said the third edition of the competition welcomes short film entries of less than 10 minutes from Malaysians nationwide, with the submission deadline set for June 14.
“The Raintown Short Film Competition 2026 is now open for entries from creators who wish to share their stories about ‘after the rain’ through various genres. Twenty selected films will be screened during the festival,” he said in a statement today.
Jacky added that the Best Short Film award carries a cash prize of RM8,000, along with gifts sponsored by CK Music, GoPro, Logitech, N4 Camera Store Sdn Bhd, Ulanzi and Lumos.
He said the competition is being continued following the success of last year’s edition, which attracted more than 100 participants, including secondary school students, film students, emerging directors, experienced filmmakers and retirees.
The three-day festival will also feature a documentary talk session on the relocation of SJK (C) Aik Hua in Terong, which was fully funded by the government as previously announced by Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.
“A visit to Bukit Larut will also be organised to allow participants and visitors to explore the unique charm of Taiping beyond the screen,” he said.
The Raintown Film Festival, established in 2024, aims to promote Taiping while providing a platform for filmmakers to interact with audiences and foster greater appreciation for filmmaking within the community.
