Plot To Topple Government Leveraging Foreign Media, Influence Of Zionist Group - PM Anwar

03/03/2026 01:31 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today revealed that the attempt to topple the government is supported by a group of Malaysians by leveraging the influence of the media and international institutions, including involving a prominent Zionist group.

Anwar said initial investigations by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) indicate that the group was based abroad and had huge funds to strategise efforts aimed at challenging and destabilising the current administration.

The Prime Minister said that according to initial findings, companies, organisations, and individuals linked to the group had held six meetings throughout 2025, both domestically and abroad.

“They sought to obtain information and exert influence through international round tables and global non-governmental organisations, followed by an international push. They then briefed Bloomberg for further action.

“The strategy allegedly extended to contacting foreign media outlets to question government initiatives, particularly those involving the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), while using international connections to shape narratives casting doubt on the credibility of the government and the country,” he said in reply to Datuk Seri Shahidan Kasim (PN-Arau) in Dewan Rakyat today.

Shahidan had wanted to know the status of the police investigations into the alleged plot to topple the government and its implications for Malaysia’s parliamentary democracy.

Elaborating, Anwar said that apart from using international media to plant articles to undermine confidence in the national economy and banking officials, there was also the fact that the group was using relationships with Members of Parliament to create a certain narrative.

“They aimed to utilise contacts among parliamentarians to disrupt proceedings and influence the framing of parliamentary questions on these issues.

“And finding a way to mobilise international media networks, especially Bloomberg, to praise certain figures who are under investigation, including corruption cases, and insist that the individuals concerned be given respect and publicly commended,” he said.

Anwar said the attempt to topple the government was believed to be driven by a series of large-scale corruption investigations being conducted by the MACC.

The Prime Minister further revealed that the alleged plot was reported to have begun in August 2024 and is expected to continue until the next General Election.

“This is not confined to a specific case, nor merely a criticism of the Prime Minister or a campaign to defend a particular individual. It extends to questioning the entire national system to bring down the government.

“It is true they seek to elevate the status of certain individuals, but based on the report, what is being challenged is the country’s entire system. This issue is not tied to any political party; it concerns national security,” he said.

As such, Anwar urged all parties to act with wisdom and fairness in safeguarding the nation, pointing to the unity shown by Members of Parliament, including those from the opposition bloc,  in condemning recent strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran.

He said further details, including alleged involvement of Zionist groups, would be disclosed once investigations are completed and all facts established.

Meanwhile, in reply to RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) on measures to ensure the next General Election is free from external influence, Anwar gave assurances that it would be conducted transparently and without foreign interference.

“I am confident because I know many opposition leaders who may disagree with me politically but would not collude in such a movement,” he said.

He also expressed hope that the National Security Council (MKN) would coordinate a meeting between the government and opposition bloc representatives to discuss the matter more comprehensively.
