AADK Ready To Cooperate With MACC Over Alleged Bribery Case At Rehab Centre

02/03/2026 05:27 PM

KUALA TERENGGANU, March 2 (Bernama) -- The National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) will give its full cooperation and access to all information required by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding the case of civil servants at a Terengganu drug rehabilitation centre suspected of soliciting and accepting bribes to smuggle contraband to inmates at the facility.

AADK director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh said this was to ensure investigations can be conducted transparently, fairly and comprehensively.

"AADK has handed over the investigation process to the MACC and is committed to giving our full cooperation in the probe.

"AADK stresses that it will never compromise or protect any personnel involved in any misconduct and violation of integrity cases that can affect the reputation of the agency and the civil service,” he said in a statement today.

He said that, in line with the principles of good governance, AADK has also taken appropriate internal action based on the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993, pending the results of the official investigation.

Ruslin said the AADK will evaluate and improve the effectiveness of its standard operating procedures (SOPs) at AADK facilities to close any gaps that can be manipulated by any party.

"AADK is determined to completely curb any form of misconduct and corruption among its workforce. The sternest and most aggressive actions will be taken against any staff found to have been involved in the violation of integrity and will face legal action, including being sacked if found guilty,” he said.

It was reported earlier today that a female civil servant at the drug rehabilitation centre in Terengganu had been remanded for six days on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes totalling about RM6,000 as an inducement to smuggle contraband to inmates at the facility.

According to sources, the woman, in her 30s, was detained together with a male colleague after they arrived at the Terengganu MACC office to provide their statements yesterday.

However, the male suspect, in his late 40s, was released on MACC bail today due to health reasons. Initial investigations suggest both suspects acted independently between September 2024 and January 2025 by soliciting and receiving money from the families of inmates.

Terengganu MACC director Hazrul Shazreen Abd Yazid, when contacted, confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. A thorough investigation is also underway to determine if other individuals were involved in the syndicate.
