IPOH, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- A total of 26 people from 10 families have been placed at a temporary relief centre at Dewan Kampung Tengku Hussein in Manjoi near here following heavy rain that caused flash floods yesterday.

Kinta District Disaster Management Committee chairman Zulhisham Ahmad Shukori said the relief centre was opened at 5 pm today.

“I was informed that 26 victims from 10 families were unable to return to their homes after yesterday’s flood as cleaning works could not be carried out today,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Kinta District Civil Defence Force (APM) Operations Control Centre said flash floods affected Kampung Manjoi and Kampung Tengku Hussein.

“The incident was caused by continuous heavy rainfall exceeding 80 millimetres for two and a half hours,” he said.

The spokesperson said floodwaters in the affected areas have receded, and house-cleaning operations are underway with the assistance of villagers.
