SHAH ALAM, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor) recorded steady growth in 2025, strengthening the resilience of the water supply system to support rising demand in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

In a statement, Air Selangor said one of its key achievements was being accepted as a member of the Leading Utilities of the World (LUOW) network, making it the first water service provider in Malaysia to receive the global recognition

The achievement, it said, was supported by strong operational readiness, underpinned by strategic asset management and sustainable infrastructure capacity.

Among Air Selangor’s achievements in 2025 was reducing Non-Revenue Water (NRW) to 26.76 per cent, an improvement from 27 per cent in 2024, and remaining on track to meet the target of 25 per cent by 2030.

“The company also maintained a healthy water reserve margin of 17.86 per cent as at December 2025, reflecting prudent supply and demand management and system resilience to meet current and future needs,” the statement said.

Air Selangor also recorded a pipe burst index of 2.94 cases per 100 kilometres per year, well below the international benchmark of 13 cases per 100 kilometres, and achieved 99.96 per cent compliance with the Health Ministry’s drinking water quality standards, exceeding the 99 per cent benchmark for five consecutive years.

The utility provider further enhanced the development of reclaimed water treatment plants for industrial and data centre operations, supplying water to two major data centres in the state.

It also distributed 1,963 aid boxes benefiting 1,443 families and supported 260 B40 students through access to Pandai Premium digital learning.

“Festive season programmes organised by Air Selangor throughout the year benefited 1,618 recipients. These initiatives were carried out under the ‘Sesama Mara’ umbrella, including the new ‘Rumah Angkat Semai Nurani’ programme, which provides holistic support to selected welfare homes,” the statement said.

For this year, Air Selangor said it will continue to focus on operational resilience, infrastructure sustainability, service reliability and water security, while expanding its international engagement.

The company will also strengthen its industry leadership and strategic collaborations to address growing demand and climate-related challenges, following its participation in major global forums such as the Global Water Summit 2025.

In addition, Air Selangor will enhance interconnectivity across the water supply system to enable smoother redistribution during disruptions, while continuing NRW reduction efforts through the implementation of new performance-based contract tenders.

“Ongoing progress in the construction of water treatment plants includes Rasau Phase 1 (700 million litres per day, completion by 2027), Labohan Dagang Phase 2 (200 MLD, by 2029), Langat 2 Phase 2 (1,130 MLD, by 2030) and Rasau Phase 2 (700 MLD, by 2031).

“The Air Selangor 2.0 application will also continue to be upgraded with lifestyle features such as Joy Rewards to encourage greater digital engagement among customers and promote long-term loyalty, including the use of e-billing.

Air Selangor expressed optimism in sustaining its momentum and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the highest standards of excellence across the entire water value chain, with improving customer experience remaining a key priority.
