KUCHING, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will convene its first general assembly since its establishment in 2019, scheduled to take place on April 19.

GPS secretary-general Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said representatives from all four component parties, comprising  Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), Parti Demokratif Progresif (PDP) and Sarawak United People’s Party  (SUPP), will be invited to attend the assembly.

Nanta, who is also PBB secretary-general, said a main organising committee will be formed and led by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas. However, the number of delegates to be invited has yet to be finalised.

“Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah is expected to convene a series of meetings in the near future to establish the relevant committees in preparation for organising the GPS convention,” he said at a press conference after the GPS Supreme Leadership Council meeting chaired by Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg here today.

Nanta said the general assembly is expected to be centred on the theme of achieving the Post-COVID Sarawak Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), which serves as the state’s long-term development roadmap.

“The theme highlighted by the Premier focuses on achieving the PCDS 2030. Further details, including the programme and timeline of the assembly, are still being discussed and will be announced later by the GPS top leadership,” he said.

Commenting on whether the convention was being held in preparation for the upcoming state election, Nanta said GPS is always prepared for any eventuality but stressed that the assembly marks a historic milestone for the coalition.

“We are indeed prepared for anything, including elections. However, since its formation, GPS has never held a convention or general assembly. This will be the first since GPS was established in 2019,” he said.
