Yayasan Salam To Hold Unity-themed Treasure Hunt, Mental Well-being Forum

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Salam Malaysia, a non-governmental organisation that champions volunteerism and community development nationwide, will organise a unity-themed treasure hunt and a forum on mental well-being and cultural intelligence on Feb 8.

In a statement today, Yayasan Salam said the events are jointly organised with the Memorial Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra (MTARP), an entity under the National Archives and the Ministry of National Unity.

Yayasan Salam trustee Datuk Yong Soo Heong said the treasure hunt is primarily a walk-and-hunt event, as the questions are based on the indoor and outdoor exhibits located at MTARP.

He said the idea is to ensure a joyful and interactive experience where unity in diversity is lived, not just spoken.

“It is an avenue for forming new friendships and strengthening our bonds of unity,” he said, adding that the entry fee for adults is RM200 for a team of four participants, while admission is free for secondary school students.

Yayasan Salam said that to ensure participants understand and practise the noble principles of unity, teams would intentionally comprise people of different ethnic backgrounds in both the student and adult categories, with each team required to include participants from at least two ethnic groups.

On the mental well-being and cultural intelligence forum, Yayasan Salam said the forum would explore practical strategies to promote mental well-being for healthier communities, reinforce greater productivity in the workplace and raise awareness of the importance of cultural intelligence and cultural empathy to strengthen unity among Malaysia’s diverse races.

It said the forum would feature Malaysian Mental Health Association president Datuk Dr Andrew Mohanraj and Dr Jamel Kaur Singh, an inter-ethnic relations strategist and author based in Melbourne, Australia.

“The unity-themed event also marks the first initiative of Yayasan Salam for 2026. It also coincides with the 123rd anniversary of Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al Haj’s birth, Malaysia’s first Prime Minister and beloved Father of Independence,” it said.

It said the events are also intended to mark his enduring legacy of goodwill, harmony and inclusivity, which continue to inspire Malaysians, making the occasion profoundly symbolic.

“More than a celebration, it is a living tribute to Tunku Abdul Rahman’s vision of a Malaysia built on harmony, inclusivity and shared humanity,” it said.

Meanwhile, National Archives director-general Zaidin Mohd Noor said such strategic collaborative initiatives with non-governmental organisations and the private sector would further enhance public knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the country’s national figures, history and heritage assets among Malaysia’s multiracial society.
