JAKARTA, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- Indonesia is drafting a regulation requiring content produced using generative artificial intelligence (AI) to carry a watermark or special label.
Communication and Digital Ministry’s Director-General of Digital Ecosystem, Edwin Hidayat Abdullah, said the ministerial regulation would complement two upcoming Presidential Regulations related to AI adoption and use in the country.
Under the proposed rule, an AI platform must attach specific labels to AI-generated content uploaded on digital platforms.
“Content that fails to comply would be subject to takedown measures,” he said, as reported by ANTARA News Agency on Monday.
The two Presidential Regulations on AI adoption and utilisation currently being drafted by the Communication and Digital Ministry are the National AI Roadmap and ethical guidelines for AI use.
Edwin said that, currently, sanctions for AI-generated content that violates existing laws are already provided for under Indonesia’s Electronic Information and Transaction (ITE) law.
