IPOH, Jan 22 (Bernama) -- Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) is continuously strengthening training for prospective teachers in line with the national education policy, which emphasises contemporary pedagogy and student-centred learning in schools, said its vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Md Amin Md Taff.

He said enhancing training for future educators would indirectly instil strong humanistic values, while also emphasising integrity and professionalism to shape individuals of high character.

“UPSI remains committed to supporting the government’s efforts to ensure the implementation of the national education policy can be realised.

“This, in turn, will have an impact on producing quality educators for the sustainability of the country’s education system,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

Md Amin said UPSI also welcomed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement on Tuesday regarding the new direction of the National Education Blueprint 2026-2035.

This includes the restructuring of the age of entry into the country’s formal education system, with preschool set to begin at the age of five and Year One at the age of six from 2027, subject to parents’ readiness.

Anwar said the move is in line with efforts to ensure children’s learning readiness is strengthened from an early stage, while also supporting a more balanced development of students’ potential.
