KUANTAN, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Two Bangladeshi men were killed after the lorry they were travelling in was involved in an accident on Jalan Selancar-Redong near Kampung Perwira Jaya, Rompin today.

Rompin district police chief Supt Sharif Shai Sharif Mondoi said the incident at about 2.25 pm claimed the lives of Md Kader, 34, and Md Dalim, 30, both oil palm plantation workers, at the scene.

He said initial investigations revealed that the lorry transporting palm oil pesticide and carrying four Bangladeshi men, including the driver, was travelling from Felda Redong to Felda Selancar when the accident occurred.

The lorry, driven by a 45-year-old man, is believed to have lost control while attempting to overtake a car upon reaching the scene, skidding to the left side of the road and overturning, he said in a statement today.

Sharif Shai added that another passenger, aged 41, suffered serious head injuries in the accident and was receiving treatment at Segamat Hospital, Johor, while the driver, who did not hold a driving licence, escaped unhurt.

“The police will take action against the owner of the lorry for allowing it to be driven by an individual without a driving licence,” he said.

The bodies have been sent to Muadzam Shah Hospital, Rompin, for post mortem, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
