MADANI Adopted Village: Four Physical Projects, Worth RM663,000, In Kg Sembulan Completed

12/01/2026 11:22 AM

KOTA KINABALU, Jan 11 (Bernama) – A total of four physical projects for the MADANI Adopted Village (KAM) in Kampung Sembulan here, with a total cost of RM663,000, were completed on Nov 2 and handed over for use by residents.

The projects were handed by Public Service Department (PSD) director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz to Kota Kinabalu mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah at the Semarak MADANI KAM ceremony in Kampung Sembulan today.

Wan Ahmad Dahlan said the four projects are the installation of street and solar lights in Kampung Sembulan, repairing and resurfacing roads and the construction of speed bumps in Kampung Sembulan Baru, repairing the futsal court and upgrading the multipurpose hall, both in Kampung Sembulan Tengah.

He said in addition to the four physical projects, assistance to upgrade the infrastructure of two schools, namely Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan SANZAC and Sekolah Kebangsaan Sembulan, was also implemented, with an allocation of RM36,000.

"With this (KAM) programme, there will be no more communities left behind in enjoying the conveniences like other villages that are already complete with basic infrastructure," he said when speaking at the opening ceremony here today.

Also present at the event were Sabah Federal Secretary Datuk Mohd Razali Wahab and National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) director Datuk Dr Mohd Zabri Yusoff.

The KAM programme is a national initiative introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Budget 2024, aimed at bridging the development gap between rural and urban areas through a whole-of-government approach, particularly in terms of basic amenities.

Kampung Sembulan was chosen among the 43 KAMs nationwide, with RM1 million allocated by the Finance Ministry to the INTAN Sabah Campus on Aug 25, 2025, to implement physical and non-physical projects in the village.

Wan Ahmad Dahlan said in addition to infrastructure development, the programme also focuses on human capital development through various initiatives such as the Program Ziarah Kasih MADANI, Sukan Belia MADANI, and basic and digital literacy classes conducted by INTAN instructors.

He said the programme aims to equip youth with technological skills to help the elderly access government services online, in addition to fostering a sense of community through mutual aid activities.

“We are also holding intervention programmes, including mobilising officers to go on-site to help residents fill out assistance applications, providing advice on job and training opportunities, and ensuring that eKasih data is used for the distribution of assistance," he said.

Meanwhile, he said the government has decided that the KAM initiative will be continued this year to ensure that no segment of society is left behind in enjoying conducive basic facilities.

"We haven't yet determined which (village) might be chosen for the PSD, but we will implement it with full enthusiasm," he said.

At the same time, Wan Ahmad Dahlan suggested that residents take joint responsibility for maintaining the facilities provided and avoiding any acts of vandalism.

"I sincerely hope that the residents' association in Kampung Sembulan will take note of the facilities that have been provided by ensuring they are always in good condition and not damaged by irresponsible parties," he added.
