BEIJING, Jan 8 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- The number of criminal cases recorded by Chinese police declined by 12.8 per cent in 2025 compared to the previous year, a police spokesperson said on Thursday, reported Xinhua.
Serious violent crimes, abductions, as well as theft, robbery and fraud offences dropped by 4.7 per cent, 40.7 per cent, and 21.2 per cent year-on-year, respectively, Zhang Ming, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Security, announced.
In 2025, 210 police officers and 142 auxiliary police officers across China died in the line of duty, Zhang said further.
In addition, the police cracked 258,000 telecom and online fraud cases nationwide in 2025, while imposing emergency freezes on over 21.7 million yuan (US$3.1 million) worth of fraud-linked funds, said Zhang Ming.
Police arrested 542 sponsors, heads and key members tied to fraud syndicates last year, he added.
Zhang elaborated that Chinese police had stepped up international law enforcement cooperation with Myanmar, Thailand and Cambodia to combat such crimes, with more than 7,600 Chinese nationals suspected of telecom fraud repatriated from Myanmar's Myawaddy region.
