753 Youth Volunteers Mobilised Through 41 Post-Flood Relief Operations

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- As of yesterday, 753 youth volunteers have been mobilised under the Rakan Muda initiative to support relief efforts following the Northeast Monsoon, said the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) in a statement today.

It said 41 relief operations were carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM).

“This initiative reflects KBS’s commitment, through the National Youth and Sports Department (JBSN) and the International Youth Centre (IYC), to coordinating humanitarian aid in a structured, focused, and impactful way for affected communities,” the statement said.

Relief efforts have included cleaning temporary evacuation centres, victims’ homes, institutions, and public areas affected by the floods.

Food, hygiene kits, and essentials were distributed, alongside psychosocial support through counselling and interactive activities to help reduce victims’ emotional stress and trauma.

“A total of 852 aid packages will be distributed to flood victims in three states, covering six locations: Segamat (Johor); Miri (Sarawak); and Kota Kinabalu, Tenom, Beaufort, and Kota Belud (Sabah).

“Each aid package contains men’s and women’s innerwear, hygiene kits, and other daily essentials to meet the basic needs of victims,” read the statement.

Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari flagged off the 2026 KBS Flood Relief Mission at Menara KBS in Putrajaya this afternoon, which was also attended by MBM president Mohd Izzat Afifi Abdul Hamid and senior KBS officials.
