KOTA KINABALU, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- Immediate assistance will be extended to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Rampayan in Menggatal, which was affected by floods that struck the area over the past two days, said Sabah Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib.

He said he has instructed the State Education Department (JPNS) to provide 300 units of tables and chairs, 10 computers and a printer, as well as about 40 sets of teachers’ tables and chairs to replace school equipment damaged in the floods.

“All aid and replacement equipment must be delivered immediately and sent to the school before the opening of the new school session on Monday next week, to ensure students’ comfort, safety and uninterrupted learning,” he said when met here today.

James said this after inspecting the extent of flood damage at the school to ensure that the continuity of students’ schooling would not be affected.

The visit was also attended by Sabah Assistant Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Jordan Jude Ellron, as well as JPNS officers.

James said monitoring findings revealed damage to student furniture, information technology equipment and facilities in the teachers’ room, all of which require immediate attention before the school session can resume.

“I would like to express my appreciation to the JPNS for its swift action in coordinating assistance, as well as to the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, the Royal Malaysia Police, the district education office and all parties involved for their efforts in the school’s cleaning and repair works,” he said.

“Apart from SK Rampayan, several other schools have also been identified as being affected by the floods. The ministry will continue to monitor the situation and provide appropriate assistance based on current needs,” he said.

He added that government-linked companies (GLCs) under the ministry would be mobilised to provide immediate assistance to affected schools as additional support for repair efforts.
