KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 (Bernama) -- Datuk Mustapha Sakmud has been appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) in today’s MADANI Government Cabinet reshuffle.
His appointment was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at a press conference in Putrajaya.
The move aims to strengthen the coordination of policies and the implementation of development agendas in both states.
The Sepanggar MP was appointed Deputy Human Resource Minister in 2022 before being appointed Deputy Higher Education Minister in the first cabinet reshuffle of the Unity Government in December 2023.
The Sabah and Sarawak Affairs portfolio, established in March 2020, was previously held by Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili until 2022.
After the 15th General Election (GE15), the portfolio was assigned to Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, who served as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs and Special Tasks).
Following the first cabinet reshuffle in 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof was appointed minister responsible for Sabah and Sarawak Affairs.
