KOTA KINABALU, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- A total of 18,853 civil servants in Sabah received good news when the state government announced the provision of a Special Financial Aid (BKK) equivalent to one month's salary or a minimum of RM2,000 through the Sabah Budget 2026.
Deputy Chief Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, who is also the state Finance Minister, while presenting the budget, said the payment of this BKK involved financial implications amounting to RM52.6 million.
He said the payment of this assistance will be carried out in two phases, namely in February, next year, before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, and before the Kaamatan celebration in May, next year.
“This assistance covers all categories of Sabah civil service members and is the government's recognition of the commitment of civil service members who are the backbone of the state administration.
“Sabah civil servants are the mainspring of the state government's administrative machinery. Therefore, in addition to salary adjustments, the Sabah government also brings good news about the BKK to state civil servants," he said when presenting the budget at the Sabah State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
Masidi said that in addition, Sabah government pensioners were not forgotten as they also received the BKK amounting to RM1,000, which is scheduled to be paid next year.
Meanwhile, he said the state government proposed an emolument allocation of RM936.73 million to finance the salaries of Sabah civil servants next year, an increase of RM32.82 million or 3.63 per cent compared to the original allocation this year.
"The increase is to accommodate annual salary increases and Phase 2 salary adjustments, which involve an increase of between three and seven per cent in line with the Civil Service Remuneration System effective Dec 1, 2024, in addition to an increase in new appointments," he said.
He said the Sabah government is also giving special attention to human resource development, with RM16.85 million to be distributed to all Sabah government agencies to ensure civil servants are trained and equipped with knowledge and skills relevant to current challenges.
Furthermore, he also said, an allocation of RM7.6 million was specifically provided to encourage a culture of lifelong learning.
"The Civil Service is the lifeblood of the Sabah government and must always function efficiently and effectively to deliver the best services to all segments of society.
"This effort is to form a line of officers who are knowledgeable, highly skilled, and possess analytical abilities and future leadership," added Masidi.
